Primal Fads

I’ve discovered a publication that bills itself as the first, and only, print magazine dedicated to the Paleo/Primal lifestyle.                       That’s me doing chin-ups after I gave up Twinkies and Diet Cokes. (Just kidding. That’s a paleo man from the magazine’s website, showing off his paleo…Continue Reading…

If George Costanza Was a Genius

He parks in handicapped spaces. He screams at subordinates. He cries like a small child when he does not get his way. He gets stopped for driving a hundred miles an hour, honks angrily at the officer for taking too long to write up the ticket, and then resumes his journey at a hundred miles…Continue Reading…

The Big Picture

Michael Levi, a climate and energy analyst with the Council on Foreign Relations, shoots down Joe Romm and Real Climate in one post. I sense that it pains him to do this, especially with regard to the latter. More on that in a minute. First, I want to point out that Levi’s argument about the…Continue Reading…

The Costs of Tribalism

That is the title of this trenchant Kevin Drum post, which nails an unfortunate dynamic that is corroding U.S. politics and public debate. The first important point Drum makes is about the dangers of spending too much time on the web, where the loudest and most extreme voices actually do have a disproportionate influence sometimes….Continue Reading…

Will CO2 Shocker Rattle Global Climate Talks?

Don’t bet on it. Sure, this AP story about the 2010 global emissions spike is quite the shocker. But as I discuss at the Yale Forum on Climate Change & the Media, it should not be surprising. And while the news may hang over the upcoming COP talks in South Africa, it won’t change the near…Continue Reading…

Swooning Over Matt Ridley

Climate skeptics are all tingly over Matt Ridley’s recent speech (titled “Scientific Heresy”) to the Royal Scottish Academy. The reaction from Anthony Watts and Bishop Hill reminded me of these famous fanboys. The speech itself is worth reading and has numerous legitimate points ripe for debate, which I’ll take up in a future post. Meanwhile, I’ll ask if Ridley and climate…Continue Reading…

Dear Diary

Judith Curry gets wowed in between conference sessions: Today I had lunch with Richard Muller and Christopher Monckton (!)  Topics covered included Climategate, the IPCC, climate sensitivity, trend analysis.  I was relatively passive, just taking it all in   What an amazing conversation. Gee, I wonder if the subject of Nazis came up at all.

Some New Blog Features

In case you haven’t noticed yet, I’ve embedded my twitter feed at the right sidebar. More of me for you to love or loathe. Seriously, in between wise cracks and indecipherable chatter, you’ll probably come across some useful reading links.

The Trick Climate Question

Michael Lemonick, a veteran science journalist, has an intriguing op-ed in today’s LA Times. He argues that the severe weather/climate change attribution debate is too simplistic and unhelpfully framed around the wrong question. Here’s a better way to think about this issue, he suggests: An obese, middle-aged man is running to catch a bus. Suddenly,…Continue Reading…
