According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurekalert.org\/pub_releases\/2010-10\/aaop-hta092710.php\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a>, here are the themes he will touch on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The origins of religious and philosophical exemptions to vaccines in the U.S.;<\/li>\n<li>The impact of those exemptions on vaccine rates and the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases;<\/li>\n<li>The delicate balance between individual freedoms and societal good.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>

<a href="https://www.balimadetour.com/contact-us/"></a> Offit is the subject of an excellent 2009 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/magazine\/2009\/10\/ff_waronscience\" target=\"_blank\">story<\/a> in Wired magazine by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amy-wallace.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Amy Wallace<\/a>.\u00a0 Shortly after the piece was published last Fall, Wallace got <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stinkyjournalism.org\/editordetail.php?id=516\" target=\"_blank\">slimed<\/a> with all manner of vitriol from vaccine opponents and <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/terrasig\/2010\/01\/paul_offit_amy_wallace_and_con.php\" target=\"_blank\">sued<\/a> by a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ageofautism.com\/2010\/09\/hhhdsa-asjdjsalk-dksla.html\" target=\"_blank\">charismatic leader<\/a> of the anti-vaccine movement. The suit was later <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amy-wallace.com\/2010\/03\/10\/1-million-lawsuit-dismissed\/\" target=\"_blank\">dismissed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p> 
<a href="https://andiroberts.com/emotional-intelligence/"></a> At an <a href=\"http:\/\/journalism.nyu.edu\/events\/index.html?ev=20100930-wallace\" target=\"_blank\">NYU event<\/a> last Thursday, I heard Wallace talk about the jarring experience. She seems to have taken it in stride and good humor. (It probably helps that Conde Nast&#8211;Wired&#8217;s corporate parent&#8211;was highly supportive and paid all her legal bills.) As this event was geared towards journalists covering science, much of the discussion (which was moderated by Robert Lee Hotz, a WSJ science columnist), focused on how Wallace went about reporting and writing the story.<\/p>\n<p>
