Lessons Learned?

This week should bring us a flood of one-year anniversary stories on the stolen email scandal known as “climategate.” Looks like Nature is first out of the box with its profile of Phil Jones, who agreed earlier this month to talk at length about his experience. He proved largely unrepentant. Anthony Watts is annoyed that…Continue Reading…

No "Tidy" End in Sight

UPDATE: Skeptics are still grousing about RPJR, but he’s still taking it all in stride. And now, it appears that Steve McIntyre is with Roger on this one, much to the disappointment of Climate Audit fans. Sometimes I think Roger Pielke Jr. is like Spock. His logic is often unassailable but it can leave people…Continue Reading…

Climate Journalism Q & A

In the super-charged, heavily politicized climate change debate, we journalists often find ourselves getting scorched from all sides: We suck, we’re biased, we’re stupid, we’re clueless, we’re a pack of conflict junkies, a blob of false-balance jello. Yeah, we’ve heard it all. So what about it? It’s all true. But not all the time. Which…Continue Reading…

An Inconvenient Provocateur

UPDATE: After finishing the Q & A, do check out the comment thread where Judith Curry is actively engaged with readers. Last week, a single blog comment by Judith Curry, a climate scientist at the Georgia Institute of Technology, outraged the proprietors and readers of Real Climate. Curry had mentioned the IPCC and the term…Continue Reading…

Some Spicy Curry

**UPDATE: In the comment thread, Judith Curry elaborates that the “main point of my post was to provoke a switch in the dialogue (away from the witch hunt) to the problems with IPCC process and how this might be improved…” **UPDATE: In numerous comments below, Judith Curry expounds on many of the controversial issues that…Continue Reading…

Choosing Sides

There’s big news today that will reinforce the hardening belief among many climate scientists and climate advocates that there is nothing constructive to be learned from climategate. That would be a huge mistake. Alas, perhaps the die is already cast. In the volatile climate change debate, journalism has come under increasing attack in the blogosphere…Continue Reading…

Hunkering Down

I do feel bad for Phil Jones, the scientist caught in the maw of climategate. It’s obviously taken an enormous personal toll on him. But he appears to still be in the same bunker that got him in trouble in the first place. He comes off fairly defensive in this interview with Olive Heffernan in…Continue Reading…

What to Eat After the Collapse

One of the more amusing (and popular) voices in the the enviro/peak oil doom-o-sphere is James Howard Kunstler, perhaps best known for his book, The Geography of Nowhere. Once a week, he issues a rambling missive on all issues related to society’s imminent collapse from his profanely titled blog, Clusterfuck Nation. People seem to eat…Continue Reading…

Tobis on Science Bias

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Michael Tobis is among the most thoughtful climate bloggers out there. To really appreciate him, you have to see how his arguments unfold in the comment threads of his posts. His latest post and related thread is a perfect example. I am certain some of his most…Continue Reading…

Pajama Talk

There’s an interesting Q & A with Roger Pielke Sr. over at Pajamas media. The interviewer tried asking several times if the case for AGW was shot because of Climategate. He didn’t get the answer he wanted. Judging by the comments, Dr. Pielke did not give the audience what they wanted to hear, either.
